Layman’s Terms:

This section does not constitute legal terms of agreement, and should not be understood as such.

I take copyright very seriously. It took lots of time, effort, and money to produce all the images, text, and other content on this website. Please don’t steal it. If you want to use an image somewhere, please just contact me. If you want to use it for personal use, I will most likely allow you to use it for free. If you want to use it for commercial use, I may require payment, a credit, or something in return. Not much, just something for my efforts.

If you do decide to ignore my warning and steal things from this website, I have U.S. Copyright Law on my side. I can use the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to force your web host to remove infringing content should you copy material from my site onto yours. I can take you to court, and sue you for damages. Depending on the level of infringement, the fine could be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few hundred thousand.

But please, I don’t want to sue anyone, or send threatening letters. I am a photographer, not a copyright attorney. Just ask me for permission before using my work. I will almost definitely grant it. Keep in mind: just because you aren’t making money from something or you think no one will ever see it does not make it legal to steal content. Save us both some trouble and just ask first.
